In addition to our advanced power and control technology, Avionic Instruments attributes its success to our ability to fully support our customers throughout a complete program and product life cycle. AI² provides the highest level of technical support in the form of documentation, accessible engineering support, full depot repair capabilities, dedicated program/product managers, and a first rate manufacturing facility.
In-house engineering services provide for new product architectures and customized variants of existing designs. Technical personnel provide support for logistics, engineering, publications, and contractual data line item requirements (CDRL).
The engineering organization has full capabilities to design, develop and document a full production drawing packages to facilitate production department. Three full time design engineers with advanced engineering degrees, lead the development of product designs with the in-house support of a magnetics design engineer, PCB designer and engineering technicians. Mechanical designs and packaging are addressed by the staff of a senior mechanical engineer and 3 mechanical designers and a thermal engineer with an average of over 20 years professional experience and all are well versed in 2D and 3D modeling tools. Additional resources include the ILS resources, Process and Configuration manager and department support staff.
Department capabilities include full electrical and mechanical prototyping resources including the creation and development of custom magnetics. Our product portfolio includes systems designed to operate in a wide variety of environmental conditions, demanding strict part selection, detailed attention adherence to demanding thermal and altitude requirements, and selection of proper production processing variables (such as conformal coat materials selection). In addition, we maintain internal ECAD design tools for schematic capture, electrical simulations, and PCB layout. Full PCB assemblies are done in-house enabling on-site lab evaluation and functional verification of designs. In house design verification and qualification capabilities include environmental parameters, such as thermal, altitude and vibration, as well as EMI conducted emission evaluations.
Principal manufacturing processes include automated assembly of surface mount components into printed circuit boards, transformer assembly, and final assembly completion. Test and inspection are a part of every manufacturing operation, ensuring high quality levels from the ground up.
Computer controlled test stations (ATE) are used to perform subassembly and final acceptance testing on all manufactured products. Customer driven Production Reliability Acceptance Tests (PRAT) and Environmental Stress Screening (ESS) are performed on AI² products. Application specific ESS test profiles, including combined vibration and temperature screening, are performed in compliance with contractual requirements.
